Garfield Institute Seminar Series: American Policy in the Middle East: Options and Limitations


What are the prospects for the creation of viable democracy in the Middle East and to what extent should/could the United States be involved in bringing about such?

The Garfield Institute for Public Leadership invites you to join them for a panel discussion featuring:

Paul Wolfowitz, Visiting Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, Deputy Secretary of Defense (2001–2005) and former Ambassador to Indonesia.

 

 

 

L. Paul Bremer III, member of the Council on Foreign Relations as well as a member of the Board of RAND Corporation’s Center for Middle East Public Policy, and former presidential envoy to Iraq.

 

 

David Aaron, Ambassador and former Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for Middle East Public Policy at RAND, will serve as the moderator.

         

         

        The panel discussion and reception are free and open to the public. We will be extending the discussion through the dinner hour and invite those interested to purchase a ticket to hear more about the subject.

        Terrier Trader Grand Opening

        If you are going to be back on Hiram’s campus, make sure to plan a visit to the brand new Terrier Trader. Located on the main floor of the Kennedy Center, the Terrier Trader is a faculty supervised and student run store selling products linked to their learning experiences in Hiram’s Center for Integrated Entrepreneurship.

        Join Alumni and friends in Washington, D.C. for an evening in honor of Thomas V. Chema’s service to Hiram College. The event will take place at the renowned Metropolitan Club of the City of Washington.

        Pianist Alexander Schimpf in Concert

        The music department at Hiram will host the winner of the Cleveland International Piano Competition, Alexander Schimpf, for two days including both a master class and concert. Over the past few years Alexander Schimpf has risen to prominence by impressively winning a series of competitions, first winning the 2008 German Music Competition (a distinction no pianist had earned for 14 years), winning First Prize at the 2009 International Beethoven Competition in Vienna and finally emerging as the first German pianist ever to win First Prize at the 2011 Cleveland International Piano Competition. His final round performance at Severance Hall with the renowned Cleveland Orchestra was given a standing ovation and additionally honored with the Audience Favorite Prize.
