Hiram College has received a generous lead gift from Walter S. Peckinpaugh, Jr. ’65 and Marilyn B. Peckinpaugh to completely renovate the tennis courts. With our mild winter, we hope to begin construction early spring for a ribbon cutting and Alumni Tennis Tournament during Alumni Weekend (June 16-18). Recently, we received a call from an alumnus who has offered to match up to $5,000 of additional gifts needed to fully fund the project. This gift challenge is offered in the name of the Hiram College 1993 Men’s and Women’s Conference Championship Teams.
Ellen Dempsey, Director of Athletics says, “We are excited and looking forward to the restoration of our tennis courts. The new courts will provide students, faculty and staff with a much-needed recreation venue and an opportunity for us to run competitive intramurals.”
Through previous donor support, the lower campus athletic area has been beautifully transformed with state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor sports and recreation facilities, a new football field, lights for the soccer fields and much more. The renovation of the tennis courts would not only complete the aesthetics of the athletic complex, it would benefit the community and add value to the College in terms of recruiting students for whom well-maintained physical exercise and recreation areas are just as important as their academic study.
We hope to see you at Alumni Weekend in June for the ribbon cutting – bring your tennis racket!
