Last Call for Alumni Executive Board Applications 

The Hiram College Alumni Executive Board (AEB) is now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 membership class.  Nominations will be reviewed by the board and selected members will begin their service in the fall of 2018.


Thirty-six alumni are elected into (up to three consecutive) two-year terms as members of the AEB. They meet on campus three times per year and offer advice on programing, events, and activities that will best support of the College’s objectives while keeping the desires of the entire alumni body in mind.

Athletics Update

The Women’s Lacrosse team celebrated senior night with a 25-1 victory over Waynesburg earlier this week, setting a new record for goals in a game.  At 6-4, the team is having a record-setting year


Men’s Volleyball coach, Kyle Mars is partnering with local high school coach and alumnus, Matt Snyder ’00, to host a High School Volleyball Tournament called Spike for Tykes at Hiram College. Spike for Tykes benefits children from Nationwide Children’s Hospital. For more information, click here.   

Hiram College Athletics will honor Doug Gruber '82 with the 2017-18 Athletic Directors Award on May 10, 2018. The Athletic Director’s Award is given to an alumnus who was a distinguished athlete while at Hiram and as a professional, and who continues to be active within the Hiram College Family.  More details coming soon on the Hiram College Terriers website.

Lectures in Religion: Dr. Juan Floyd-Thomas
Apr. 25
Dr. Juan Floyd-Thomas, Associate Professor of African American Religious History, Vanderbilt University Divinity School, will present At The Edge of the Promised Land: Martin Luther King Jr., Protests Movements, and the Struggle for Grassroots Democracy in America.

John M. Watson Memorial Concert and Senior Prize in Music 
Apr. 27 
The 12th annual John M. Watson Memorial Concert will feature a world-renowned opera singer and one of Hiram’s own, Andrea Anelli ’83 from ContempOpera Cleveland.


The concert is free and open to the public.  A reception will follow the performance in the Bates Hall lobby.

Experiencing the Renaissance through Music, Performance, and Interactive Activities
May 2-3
Join us for Shakespeare on the Green, a two-day festival featuring movie screenings, improv games, a renaissance fair, madrigal performances, dance and costume contests, and more!  All events are free and open to the public.  Sponsored by Hiram College Lindsay-Crane Center for Writing and Literature, Theatre Arts Department, and Music Department. Funding provided by the Class of ’59 John Shaw Lecture Fund.

U.S. Ambassador to Chile to Deliver Commencement Speech

Carol Zelis Perez '75, United States Ambassador to Chile, will deliver Hiram College’s May 12 commencement ceremony keynote address on the topic of change. Since Perez graduated from her alma mater, she has experienced a vibrant, successful and ever-evolving career in foreign service, leadership and diplomacy.

 

Her personal and professional narrative of change aligns perfectly with Hiram College’s repositioning change as the New Liberal Arts.
