New position and new publication for Roger Adkins '95

Posted By Roger A. Adkins, Monday, August 5, 2019
I have recently accepted a newly created position at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. I will serve (starting in September 2019) as the Executive Director of Global and Career Education, overseeing global learning (study away/abroad, international student and scholar services, ESL programs, and Earlham programs that serve students from across the country, such as the Border Studies program based in Arizona and Mexico) as well as career education (internships, intentional learning outcomes in on-campus student employment, career readiness, professional development, etc.). The move brings me closer to family members who still live in western Ohio and also situates me within a Quaker institution where the community values align very well with my own: promoting peace, social justice, nonconfrontational conflict resolution, and global understanding. I have spent the past four years serving as Director of International and Cultural Education at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, where I have offered a study abroad course on folklore and social justice in England and Scotland. I also recently published a coauthored book chapter on decolonizing approaches in education abroad programming (it appears in Education Abroad and the Undergraduate Experience, edited by Brewer and Ogden, 2019) and am now at work on a few other projects on decolonizing and queering approaches in education abroad. My Hiram education continues to serve me well, and I have found my professional home in liberal arts colleges as well.

Roger Adkins '95 now works at Gustavus Adolphus College

Posted By Roger A. Adkins, Saturday, July 11, 2015
Updated: Saturday, July 11, 2015
I recently accepted a new position: Director of International and Cultural Education at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. In this post, I serve as the chief international officer of the College, managing study away programs (both international and domestic), international student and scholar services and programming, the 'interculturalization' and 'glocalization' projects of the College, international partnerships, and intercultural programming on the campus and in College activities. I have relocated from Eugene, Oregon, to St. Peter and am happily settling into my new role. Most recently, I served as a special consultant to the director in the International Center at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, and as the associate director of study abroad programs at the University of Oregon. I would be thrilled to hear from old Hiram friends and other Hiram alumni living in Minnesota.

An exciting 2014

Posted By Melanie D. Collins, Tuesday, December 23, 2014

Josh Moss (class of '99) and I had a lot of life changes in 2014.  Josh started his new job as Assistant Professor of Physics at California State University Sacramento in August and we welcomed our 2nd child, our son Evan, on September 14, 2014.  His big sister, Nora (born Sept 12, 2012) was excited to welcome the addition to our family and we have all been having fun exploring our new city of Sacramento.  The summers are much hotter than Columbus, OH but we are definitely enjoying the winters in the 60's and no snow!
