|Andrew Ratcliff '86|
Andrew Ratcliff has gone above and beyond the call of "alumni duty" with the Hiram Alumni Volunteer Day Program. When the alumni office decided to launch this program in 2002, Heather Meeker looked to Andrew, one of the Alumni Executive Board members, to be the National Alumni Chair. Andrew accepted this position and held it in 2002, 2003, and 2004.
His thoughtful approach, recruitment of volunteers, and superb organizational efforts has made this program the success that it is today. In 2002, the program consisted of four sites in Northeast Ohio. In 2003, it grew to seven locations - including two outside the state of Ohio -- Washington, D.C. and Chicago, Illinois.
In 2003, Hiram's Volunteer Day was held as a registered location with the National "Make a Difference Day Program." Recently, the National Make a Difference Day headquarters informed the alumni office that the Hiram College Program was a finalist in an Ohio contest, which selects the best Make a Difference Day volunteer program.Andrew has also served as an Alumni Executive Board (AEB) member since 2001 and as Vice President of the AEB. He was an enthusiastic member of a very successful 15th Reunion Steering Committee in 2001. Andrew is a loyal volunteer for Hiram College, always ready and willing to step up to assist with the next project and for this reason, and he is an excellent candidate to receive the Volunteer of the Year Award.
