|Sheryl Buckley '68|
Sheryl Buckley is an accomplished anesthesiologist who has spent decades giving back to Hiram College both philanthropically and in time and talent. She is a member of Hiram's Board of Trustees and teaches through the Weekend College office as an adjunct faculty member. She has co-edited books with Carol Donley titled "What's Normal" and "The Tyranny of the Normal." Two years ago she offered to help chair her Hiram reunion. Unfortunately, just after her commitment she learned that she had cancer and as the reunion neared, she was so weak she was unable to participate. However, she endorsed multiple communication pieces that went out encouraging her
Sheryl's service extends beyond the alumni community. She is always willing to serve as a resource for Hiram students as well – offering to host a student for job shadowing over his or her spring break or serving as a medical resource for the nursing program. The Center for Literature, Medicine, and Biomedical Humanities – one of Hiram's seven centers of excellence – is her brainchild. She remains very much connected to it and serves on its board – assisting in annual program ideas, marketing of the center and more. She also is a member of Hiram's Women's Council which provides annual scholarships to Hiram.
Sheryl is one of a many family members who has attended Hiram – and she takes the College home with her… one of her cats is even named Gerstacker!
