|Wilton Connor '70|
Wilton Connor, owner and president of Wilton Connor Packaging Inc., graduated from Hiram College in 1970 with a degree in sociology and history. He went on to serve four years with the Coast Guard before working for several paper companies -- Container Corporation of America; Western Kraft Paper Group and Williamette Industries. Ultimately, he began his own company.
Wilton and his company have been the subject of an NBC Nightly News segment, with Tom Brokaw, on family friendly companies. He was previously featured on ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings and was profiled in Inc. Magazine as one of the best small companies to work for in America.
The article goes on to explain how Wilton hired teachers to help employees learn English and pass high-school equivalency testing, providing transportation to and from work, as well as offering laundry service for $1.00 a load. Read the article in Inc. Magazine.
Wilton served on Student Senate during his four years on Hiram's campus, as well as becoming a member of the Board of Trustees.
