Five members of one family, who found in their Hiram educations the impetus for outstanding careers in biology, are honored with the Alumni Achievement Award.

Associate Professor of Zoology Michael Hamas '69 specialized in the breeding of biology birds. Going beyond the normal parameters of teaching at the Central Michigan University, he is known as a researcher, writer, and consultant.

Richard Kocan '63 is Research Associate Professor at the School of Fisheries at the University of Washington and a noted author in his field. As founder and vice-president of an environmental consulting firm, he has travels around the world.

A. Alan Kocan '68 also uses his knowledge beyond the classrooms. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Veterinary Parasitology, Microbiology, and Public Health at the College of Veterinary Medicine of Oklahoma State University. He is also a consultant to the Raptor Research Foundation and the Oklahoma City Zoo and secretary-treasurer of the Southwestern Society of Parasitologists.
