Mark Logan is one of Hiram's most successful alumni, having translated his Hiram experience into multiple successes in the business world.  From 1994-2001 he served as Chairman, President, and CEO of VISX, Inc., a pioneer in the design and development of technology and systems for laser vision correction.  Under his leadership, VISX became the undisputed leader in the laser vision correction market with revenues of $170 million and control of 75% of the lasik surgery equipment market.

Prior to his work with VISX, Mark raised money for biomedical research, worked for a pharmaceutical company developing drugs for the treatment of diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome, and was a consultant to the American Diabetes Association.

He has his BA in Art History from Hiram, an MA and Woodrow Wilson Fellowship in Art History from New York University, and is a graduate of the Program for Management Development from Harvard University's Graduate School of Business.

Although Mark is officially retired, he is focusing much of his time on important global health and social issues.  He is working with VIVUS, another pharmaceutical company, dedicated to the development of the next generation of therapeutic products addressing obesity and sexual health.

He also serves as a board member for the Southern Environmental Law Center, a Charlottesville, Virginia organization that champions environmental and natural resource protection through legal action and policy planning, in the southeast U.S. and nationally.  Some of SELC's successes have resulted in limits on air and water emissions from coal-burning electric plants, and bans on clear-cutting in Appalachian forests.

Mark is well-known in Charlottesville, Virginia for his work with local charities.
