|Muriel (McAdoo) Sponseller '46|
Muriel McAdoo Sponseller, Class of 1946, is a dedicated and energetic woman who has given of her time and talents to her family, friends, students, and to Hiram College.
She and her husband Jim, also a Hiram graduate, class of 1946, have traveled the world, returning to Bedford, Ohio where they have lived for most of their married life. Wherever Muriel has gone, she has immersed herself in helping others.
While at Hiram, Muriel was active in the student government, played women's soccer and basketball, was a cheerleader and was also a member of Sigil of Phi Sigma. Her continued interest in Hiram has led her to a post on the Alumni Executive Board and work with the Women's Council of Hiram College. She is a strong supporter of the merit scholarship programs at Hiram, no doubt a result of her years as an educator, having retired in 1986 as a teacher of Preschool Handicapped Children. Through her work with the United Cerebral Palsy Association of the Cleveland Board of Education, she has touched many lives.
The McAdoo family is certainly no stranger to the Hiram campus. Muriel's sister, Eunice, brother, Garth and sister-in-law Barbara, are all graduates. It is no wonder Muriel is the perfect candidate for class reunion committees. She has served on several reunion committees and was class representative for the Inauguration of Hiram College's 17th President, Dr. Russell Aiuto.
Muriel McAdoo Sponseller is indeed a devoted friend to her alma mater. She herself put it best in a letter written many years ago. “No matter how far from home we have traveled, we have always kept in touch with Hiram friends and treasure those friendships along with the memories of our happy Hiram days.” Hiram College is equally happy that Muriel has kept her connections to Hiram. She is the kind of volunteer Hiram has come to depend upon -- one who is deserving of the title “Volunteer of the Year.”
