Alumni Weekend is around the corner! Come back to Hiram Hill and participate in your weekend at Hiram. From canoeing and dancing to tours and classroom discussions, we’ve got something for everyone. You can even stay over night in our residence halls! Every year we have seen more and more alumni come back to re-experience Hiram. Will you be one of them this year?

We invite all alumni, especially those celebrating a reunion, to come to this year's Alumni Weekend June 13th through the 15th. A special welcome goes to the class of 1964 who will be celebrating their 50th reunion this year.

Summer Courses at Hiram
Summer Classes
Do you know any college students who would be interested in taking summer courses at Hiram College? Summer is a great time to catch up or get ahead on coursework! Hiram College is offering over 50 on-campus, off-campus (Northwoods, Lorain County Community College, Cuyahoga County Community College) online and blended courses and workshops. Summer courses are also a wonderful way for students to stay on track and graduate in four years. It's easy for students to register. Current Hiram College students can simply go to Students that attend other colleges and universities should call 330-569-5161 to register for a course.

Ohio Historical Society Marker Dedication
Historical MarkerJoin the James A. Garfield Historical Society and the James A. Garfield School District as guests to the upcoming dedication of an Historical Marker to be erected at the former Garrettsville train depot. A grant was secured through the Ohio Historical Society to memorialize the site of the "last great train heist in American history" on November 7th, 1935.

Research for this grant began as Julie Thompson's (Hiram class of 2013) senior capstone project for her major in History. Her research topic was recognized by the Council on Undergraduate Research in Washington, D.C. and was one of the projects chosen to be presented to congressional leaders in the district.

Workshops in the Woods
The Northwoods Field Station is a rustic camp surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty and has served as a remote campus for summer courses and programs since the 1970’s. Located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula near Munising, the camp overlooks Cherry Lake among the trees of the Hiawatha National Forest and is surrounded by 100,000 acres of forest, meadows, bogs, rivers and lakes. Nearby attractions include Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Seney National Wildlife Refuge.

From History to Mystery: or, How to Tell the Truth Even When You are Lying
Sam ThomasJoin the Friends of the Library for a talk by Dr. Sam Thomas, author of The Midwife’s Tale and The Harlot’s Tale. Dr. Thomas teaches at the University School in Cleveland and will give a talk entitled “From History to Mystery: or, How to Tell the Truth Even When You are Lying” followed by a book signing.

This talk is free and open to the public.

Entrepreneurship E-Workshops
The Center for Integrated Entrepreneurship at Hiram College presents E-Workshops that will be open to the public. The workshops are half price ($10) for alumni and $20 each for the general public. The next workshop, “SMART START” with Stacey Banks CEO of RSVP Consultants, will be on March 21, 2014.

Center for Nature and Society- Bill Goldner Lecture
Bill Goldner_2Dr. Bill Goldner ‘80 National Program Leader (NPL) in the Division of Sustainable Bioenergy of the Institute of Bioenergy, Climate and Environment, in the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) of the USDA will give two presentations on April 2nd:

4:15 p.m.: a talk about Dr. Goldner’s work running a USDA sustainable bioenergy program
7:00 p.m.: a Fireside Chat about innovation in East Hall with the Entrepreneurship students and guests
