Hiram College Music Department presents 2014 Watson Memorial Concert
Watson Concert"A natural, believable actor and a first-rate singer," rising-star Jason McStoots joins Les Délices for a program inspired by the Paris Opéra's leading man and comic muse, tenor Pierre Jélyotte. Works by Rameau, Lully and more.

Admission is free with a post-concert reception.

Ohio Historical Society Marker Dedication
Historic MarkerJoin the James A. Garfield Historical Society and the James A. Garfield School District as guests to the upcoming dedication of a Historical Marker to be erected at the former Garrettsville train depot. A grant was secured through the Ohio Historical Society to memorialize the site of the "last great train heist in American history" on November 7th, 1935.

Research for this grant began as Julie Thompson's (Hiram class of 2013) senior capstone project for her major in History. Her research topic was recognized by the Council on Undergraduate Research in Washington, D.C. and was one of the projects chosen to be presented to congressional leaders in the district.

After the weekend, Pamela reads from her historical novel, Swimming in the Moon (HarperCollins, 2013). Set in Naples and Cleveland in the early 20th Century, a young Italian immigrant's journey takes her to Hiram College, vaudeville, and workers' fights for justice. Refreshments will be served. Three Student Life Staffers Celebrate Retirement
Three longtime members of the Hiram College Student Life staff are celebrating retirement this year: Kathryn Craig, director of career and academic development, Peg Minard, administrative assistant for Campus Safety, and Eric Riedel, vice president and dean of students.

In honor of their dedication and service to the College, each of them was interviewed.

English Professors Earn Recognition from Ohio Arts Council
OAC LogoTwo faculty members in the Department of English, Associate Professor Mary Quade, and Professor Joyce Dyer, recently earned 2014 Individual Excellence Awards from the Ohio Arts Council.

Each year, the Ohio Arts Council awards grants to creative artists for the exceptional merit of a body of their work that advances or exemplifies the discipline and the larger artistic community. These awards support artists’ growth and development and recognize their work in Ohio and beyond.
