Opportunity to Help a Student with a Research Project

Hiram's Department of Biology is looking for alumni in NE Ohio to help a Hiram senior with her independent Biology capstone research project. The goal of the research is to gather data on air quality in Northeast Ohio, determine the extent that air pollution moves eastward from Cleveland following local weather patterns, and relate air quality to lichen growth. To do the study, she will need to measure air quality at several locations in three bands running North-South on the same days.

Sustainability Loan Secured for Hiram College

We are delighted to share the news that Hiram has finalized details for the State of Ohio's $5 million sustainability loan program, and we are implementing sustainability enhancements across campus. The enhancements will result in immediate and significant cost reductions for heating, cooling, electricity and water, and the cost savings will directly fund Hiram's repayment of the loan over 15 years.

These campus-wide energy-saving transformations will include:

  • New windows in many of our residence halls
  • Re-lamping many of the campus buildings with more energy efficient technology
  • Replacing water fixtures with modern equipment consistent with the best practices in reducing water usage
  • Replacing ancient boilers and air handlers in older buildings with modern equipment
  • Installation of a centralized building management system to efficiently monitor heating and cooling performance campus-wide

Work on these sustainability enhancements will begin immediately.

2013 Women's Council Encore Program

The Hiram College Women's Council was founded in 1940 to promote the interests of the College. In the early 1950s the Women's Council initiated their scholarship program and later provided funds to endow scholarships for two additional students. Each year the Women's Council holds their Day in the Country annual sale and the Encore! program to raise funds to support these causes. This year Encore! is in its 18th year, and for the first time both ladies and gentlemen are invited to attend. This year's three events are listed below and will take place at the Twinsburg Hilton Garden Inn.
