Triumph & Turmoil: An Exploration of China's Entry into the Modern World
Professors Xinlu Yu and Gail Ambuske
May 8th - 20th, 2013
No longer the "Sleeping Dragon," China is emerging from centuries of isolation. Even with 5,000 years of history, a revolution sending reverberations throughout the world, an economy continuing to expand at over 8% a year, and the site of the 2008 Olympic Games, China remains for most Americans a giant enigma.
Join Professors Gail Ambuske and Xinlu Yu in an unforgettable journey as we explore the triumph and turmoil that has characterized China's entry into the modern world. Click this LINK to view the complete itinerary.

The Obama Presidency: A Preliminary Assessment

SUNY Press recently released a book coedited by Doug Brattebo, Assistant Professor of Political Science and Director of Hiram College’s Center for Engaged Ethics.
Here is a description from the SUNY Website
Lively and engaging essays covering President Obama’s domestic and foreign policy, governing style, and character.

Barack Obama’s presidency is a pivotal one in American history, coming at a time of dramatic political change in the United States and amidst an astonishing array of domestic and foreign policy challenges.  Not surprisingly, then, the Obama administration has been the focus of intense scrutiny by scholars, the press, and the public, and rarely has the tone of political discourse been more polarized and emotionally charged. In this book, a distinguished group of scholars offers an objective and timely examination of the Obama administration -- Obama’s character, leadership style, and rhetoric -- and his domestic, foreign, and national security policies. Engaging, lively, and highly readable, each essay offers important insight into this historic president and presidency.
